Newcomer Info (old)
Welcome in TH! This page aims to answer a few of the simple questions you might have when you join the group or CERN.
SEMINARS
Most TH seminars take place in the TH Conference Room, generally at 2 p.m, while some others happen in the TH Common Room.
You will find more details on TH Seminars, including their schedule, from the "Events" tab, above.
Announcements for seminars are made on Indico and weekly via email from the TH seminar address. They are also announced on the notice board in the Common Room (Bldg. 4-2.011, ) Bldg. 53-1.075 and Bldg. 50 near the library. There are also regular thematic journal clubs, taking place in the TH Common Room and announced as the seminars.
Some less formal activities such as workshops and study groups are organized on a semi-regular or sporadic basis. These can be announced in the same way. Announcements can be made by e-mail via TH Seminars. They are also announced on the notice board in the Common Room (Bldg. 4-2.011, ) Bldg. 53-1.075 and Bldg. 50 near the library.
Among all seminars, the TH theoretical seminar is the main one, of general interest, taking place on Wednesdays at 2 pm. Attendance is compulsory for TH Unit members and visitors.
Everyone is strongly encouraged to initiate any informal physics discussion that he/she would like. A discussion room (4-3.004) is available and can be reserved through the on-line conference rooms booking system. The board in the Common Room can be used for the corresponding announcements.
In addition to the TH seminars, there are also lectures, seminars and colloquia of interest to the whole CERN physics community; these are usually held in the Main Auditorium and announced in the Weekly Bulletin and on various notice boards. In particular, the general CERN colloquium on Thursdays at 16:30 in the CERN auditorium, organized by Ignatios Antoniadis, the LHC Physics Center at CERN (LPCC) semnars and in events coordinated by Michelangelo Mangano and the CERN Heavy Ion Forum is a seminar series organized, jointly with EP, by Yiota Foka (GSI), Urs Wiedemann (TH) and Guy Paic (EP). Other seminars held elsewhere in CERN can be found from the same sources.
COMMON COFFEE/TEA
Coffee and tea are served in the Common Room, every Wednesday at 3.30 p.m., after the main seminar.

Publications
Any Fellow or Scientific Associate who is at CERN for 2 months or more may issue TH preprints, articles, describing research carried out entirely, or to a large extent, at CERN. TH Staff members will always be happy to discuss the content or presentation of a paper, but their formal approval is not required. Visitors who are at CERN for less than 2 months cannot normally issue TH preprints. The Division Leader may occasionally relax this rule. No paper will be taken after departure of the author(s) from CERN. However, if they do not manage to complete a paper before they depart, they can ask for a preprint number for another two weeks after departure at most. The Division has no budget to cover publication or reprint charges. TH preprints are required to be written in good English (British spelling).
Long-Distance Phone Calls
Our budget is limited, and any unnecessary expenses must be avoided. This applies in particular to official long-distance telephone calls (please note that non-official ones have to be made from the post office, or with a special card obtainable from either post office or kiosk). Bear in mind that long-distance contacts can be nearly as quick through electronic mail. The Division has to pay for all its official calls from the Visitors budget. So please be considerate.
So finally:
ENJOY YOUR STAY!
