Large N: Resurgent vs Erratic?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

This workshop aims to bring together researchers working on the large-N limit in holography from a variety of perspectives, including averaging in N, resurgence in matrix models and beyond, and the finite-N behavior of BPS microstates and their chaotic properties.

Recently, it has been proposed that the emergence of semiclassical gravity in holography, and the resulting factorization puzzle, can be understood from averaging over N. On the other hand, there has been progress in understanding exact finite-N properties of holographic systems using trans-series and by studying high-energy BPS states, leading to the fortuity program. The goal of the workshop is to foster interactions between these communities and stimulate discussions on how to connect these different approaches.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Tensions and proposals concerning the large-N limit of holography
  • Resurgence and its applications in holography and related models
  • Quantum chaos, BPS chaos and exact results at finite N
